You'll learn general information on some of the most common lighting fixtures: what their purpose is, how they work, and how to make them work for you.

Basic Moving Lights & Consoles
Moving lights are more than simply lights that move. They're extremely versatile instruments that allow you to add excitement, color, creativity and even artistry to just about any show, event or venue. But to use moving lights effectively, you'll need to know how they work, and how to program the consoles that control them. Whether you're new to lighting, or have a little experience, join us for this hands on workshop using Whole Hog, Hog IPC, Hog 500 and 1000, and ETC Express series consoles.

Basic Repair and Maintenance
What do you do when your lights don't work properly? Do you have to pay to get the item repaired or replaced, or can you actually fix it yourself? This course will cover the basics in the exciting (and sometimes dangerous!) world of theatrical lighting repair, from terminology and tools of the trade to finding the root of the problem, safety and hands-on repair. Bring the following tools if you can (though it's not essential): (1) a slot-headed (or multi-bit) screwdriver, (2) a Phillips (or multi-bit) screwdriver, (3) needle-nose pliers, (4) a razor knife, (5) a wire stripper and (6) a multi-meter.

Beginning Lighting Design
In this session, you'll get hands-on experience using these fixtures to create a simple lighting design and explore the many different visual effects that can be created: how to set a mood or theme, and how to design in different environments. By the end of this workshop you'll no longer be in the dark about lighting. This is a beginning class—no prior experience necessary.

Electricity 101
Why do lamps flicker? Why do fuses blow? How many lights can you put on a dimmer? Whether you're a seasoned lighting designer, a novice gaffer, a drama teacher or just plain curious, this popular Angstrom University workshop will help unravel the mysteries of wattage, voltage and amperage. You'll learn some of the basics of how electricity works, and how a little common sense can help you deal with some of the most common electrical problems. This is a beginning class—no prior experience necessary.

If you know little or nothing about lighting, but wish you knew a lot more—or even if you need to brush up on fundamentals—this is the class for you! Angstrom Lighting CEO Frans Klinkenberg will provide a basic overview of three areas essential to understanding lighting—electricity, lighting fixtures and design—and how they interrelate. Come with your questions and walk away enlightened! This course makes an excellent preface to some of our other classes.
